Thanks to the Chadron Schools Foundation and the grant money we received, these happy students are getting to try out our new alternative seating choices through Gaiam seat cushions and yoga mats from Yoga Outlet. We love using the cushions at our back table for small groups and also in our chairs during while group learning. The yoga mats are especially handy for silent reading, using our class iPads, or working on independent work. What an awesome way for our class to get to be more "at home" in our classroom. Finding a place we are comfortable can help us to become better learners.

Shopping trips in math are fun. Especially when they are imaginary and don't require actually leaving the classroom. For this project we used an idea from Teachers Pay Teachers (Teaching in Room 6) to help enhance our learning outcome of adding money. We found and cut out six books, then found their prices in retail compared to the scholastic price. Then they subtracted to find how much we had saved. In the end they added their total cost and total savings to complete the project. The cutting and pasting is always good practice, too. I'd call that a fun Friday for sure!

Friday morning our CARDS groups met and each group had a goal to be proud of our school as we helped out with small projects that each contributed to one big project. We raked, swept, cleaned, made posters, cleaned up trash and so much more to help take pride in our school and make it shine. What an awesome school-wide project! We are proud to be CARDS!

We are working on life science in science this quarter and biome studies are helping us to understand interactions between biotic and abiotic components. These posters were created in small groups after researching our biomes using the website www.kidsdoecology.com.

Not sure what is so scary, but these turned out to be pretty great. We used oil pastels and watercolors with straws to create these colorful masterpieces. They went down today to make room for new artwork, so I wanted to share them with all who hadn't had a chance to see them yet!
