Art Projects: The Mysterious and the Mundane

Catching up... quite the title for something I never feel like I completely do.  Here is a look into some of our recent art projects.  We read the book The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, by Chris Van Allsburg.  If you haven't read it, it's a must!  We looked at the mysterious pictures and decided to draw "What Happened Next." It's amazing what can be accomplished with a pencil and drawing paper.

This second project was not greeted with much enthusiasm.  The students whined, moaned, and complained that they were not capable of drawing their shoes.  They proved themselves wrong, though, and the end product is pretty cool.  My only regret is not taking a picture of the classroom full of one-shoed 4th graders and shoes on top of all of the desks.  We untied our shoes and hoped that the fire alarm didn't choose to go off that morning.  It was only a project about a shoe, which is why it got the title part of "mundane," but we now know that art can start with
