Lexi the Chinchilla

Lexi, Morgan's chinchilla visited us on Monday during class.  The class loved touching her super soft fur.  Most hadn't seen a chinchilla before, so the visit was extra special.  Thanks for sharing her with us!

Planet Research

The fourth graders are having fun researching planets with the ChromeBooks. They like to think of themselves as little workers at their offices and are digging into the facts about the solar system.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Yesterday, we got to participate in the MLK March.  We were dropped off near 10th street and joined in the march with the rest of the community.  It was a chilly day, but not too cold, as we made our way to the new Chicoine Auditorium.  At the program, the students sang songs with Mrs. Dickerson, listened to other choirs perform, and got to hear Dr. Albert Bimper, a former professional football player, speak.  When we got back from the event, I asked the students what they would remember from the speaker. I was happy to hear one of them say that that Dr. Bimper said that they needed to "be uncommon." He had talked about his coach teaching him not to be like everyone else, for example, be a football player, but also get the best grades. But most remembered that he was a member of the Colts and that his dad wore clothes that supported the Chicago Bears during his game against them for the Super Bowl.  I think they were impressed by his "celebrity" status, but they also did seem to take away a good message.  I hope that we all remember Dr. King and all he has done, but also how far we have yet to go.
